So you’ve had your medical marijuana patient card for almost a year so far. Now what?!

To access medical marijuana legally, it is important to keep your mmj patient card up to date.  Arizona medical marijuana cardholders must renew their cannabis cards every two years. (August 27, 2019 Senate bill 1494 went into effect.  This bill allows applicants who submit an initial or renewal application for qualifying patients, will be issued a license that is valid for two years instead of just one.  If you currently have a license, it will still expire on the date printed on the card.). Take a look at your mmj card. The expiration date is located on the right-hand side of the cannabis card. You cannot renew your card more than 90 days prior to the expiration date, but make sure to renew it before it expires. The sooner the better! You’ll need at least 30 days for no interruptions.

Renewing Your MMJ Card

Renewing your AZ medical marijuana patient card is straightforward and simple.

For an Arizona medical marijuana car renewal, you are required to submit similar information as was required in your original qualifying medical cannabis patient application. You will need to send the following items to the Arizona Department of Health Services.

• Current physician certification
• Current photograph
• Current patient attestation form
• Current documentation of SNAP eligibility
• Copy of ID (if your name has changed)

You will need to verify with your doctor that you still have a qualifying condition.

There are also medical marijuana certification centers available to help qualify and process your application. These centers do charge a fee in addition to the AZ state fees.

The renewal fee structure is the same as for a new mmj card.

• Qualifying patient application $150.00
• Qualifying patient application eligible for SNAP $75.00
• Qualifying minor patient application $350.00
• Qualifying minor patient application eligible for SNAP $275.00
• Designated caregiver application (regardless of SNAP eligibility) $200.00
